A community-driven initiative to activate the Belltown neighborhood in Seattle was developed by the Fraser + Fogle team.
BATTERY STREET FARM: Horticulturalists develop soil profiles favorable to regional crop performance which are layered above the Battery Street Tunnel once the surface streets are removed. This enables local growers, restaurateurs, and residents to utilize this urban space for organic farming within the community.
BELL STREET MARKET: Commercial blocks feature food by local restaurateurs, fresh ingredients from local growers, and pop-ups by local businesses. The Bell Street Dog Park is re-conceptualized as a multi-purpose recreation and activity hub where food trucks can assemble and residents can eat, play, and connect.
MARKET-FARM CONNECTOR: The utilitarian alleyways are transformed into commercial and pedestrian connectors and feature temporary and permanent art.
Initiative: Recharge the Battery
